Intakes
US universities have 3 intakes

    • Fall: Starts in August/September

 

    • Spring: Starts in January; it’s best for you if you miss the September/Fall intake.

 

    • Summer: Available for limited programs and colleges, the Summer intake usually starts around May
REQUIREMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE :
All students must have the required English language proficiency with regards to the course. TOEFL score of 90 or above for Postgraduate and 80 above for Undergraduate studies are a decent score. IELTS score of 6.0 or above for Undergraduate degrees and 6.5 or above for postgraduate degrees is required. Over 2500 institutions in USA recognize the IELTS exams including several top ranked.

EMPLOYMENT :

International students can take up on campus jobs they are allowed to work 20 hrs per week during semester (on campus). On campus jobs may include teaching assistantship or research assistantship where a student is paid on an average $8 to $10 per hour thus student earns approximately $ 500-$ 1000 per month or can get a waiver in tuition fees. With this, a student can also do internship in the related field which may be paid. During vacation the student is allowed to work for 40 hrs per week. On completion of the course, student is allowed to work for 1year popularly known as OPT (optional practical training). Students with certain degrees (STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) are allowed to work for 29 months. On completion of their OPT; the student can later apply for work on a H1 B visa. (Work permit visa)

COVID-19 vaccination travel requirements :

On October 25, 2021, President Biden signed Proclamation 10294 titled “A Proclamation on Advancing the Safe Resumption of Global Travel During the COVID-⁠19 Pandemic,” placing a global requirement on all noncitizens who are nonimmigrants traveling to the United States by air to show both the negative COVID viral test and documentation that they are either fully vaccinated or are eligible for an exception to the vaccination requirement, effective November 8, 2021. Otherwise, the entry into the United States by air travel of noncitizens who are nonimmigrants and who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is suspended and limited. CDC has created a helpful flowchart to assist travelers navigate COVID entry requirements to the U.S.

New rule for international students :

The U.S. has proposed a new rule for international students that would set student visas to a fixed four-year term. International students looking to extend their stay would be required to apply for an extension, according to the new rule. The rule would also limit international student visas to a fixed two-year term if students are from a country with a visa overstay rate above 10% or a country on the U.S. State Department’s State Sponsor of Terrorism list.
